Description

The Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, also known as the Resurrection Cathedral, is a significant monument of church architecture of the second half of the 17th century and a majestic symbol of the city of Tutaev in the Yaroslavl region.

The temple was built in the period from 1652 to 1687 on the site of a wooden church in the name of Saints Boris and Gleb. Initially it was a stone tented church with a refectory and two chapels, consecrated in 1652. However, by 1670, due to destruction, the hipped tops began to collapse. After this, it was decided to build a new, larger temple, which was completed in 1687.

The construction of the cathedral was carried out under the guidance of craftsmen from Yaroslavl, and during the reconstruction the original plan was changed. As a result, a two-tier, five-domed temple was built, surrounded by an extensive gallery and with two richly decorated porches. The central part of the temple is illuminated through windows located above the surrounding gallery and light drums. The apses of the altar part have two tiers.

The Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ is richly decorated with figured masonry, relief decoration and tiles. Its architectural appearance expresses harmony and proportionality, and decorative elements, such as an elegant arcade of windows, clusters of semi-columns, and painting of internal spaces, add sophistication and beauty to it.

The Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ occupies an outstanding place in the architectural heritage of the region and is an important object of cultural heritage of Russia. Its powerful walls and majestic architecture attract art and history lovers from all over the world.
