The monument to the pilots and technicians of the Normandie-Neman aviation regiment was erected in Ivanovo in a park located at the intersection of Lezhnevskaya and Letchika Lazarev streets, near school No. 56. The sculptors of the monument were Vladimir and Danila Surovtsev, the architectural design was developed by Vladimir and Oleg Syagin. The monument was inaugurated on August 8, 2015.
History of the Normandie-Niemen regiment
The Normandie-Niemen aviation regiment was formed on July 5, 1943 from a French squadron that arrived in Ivanovo on November 29, 1942. The squadron was transformed into a regiment on November 28, 1944 and received the honorary name "Nemansky" for its exploits in battle.
Participation in the Great Patriotic War
During the Great Patriotic War, pilots of the Normandie-Niemen regiment flew 5,240 combat missions, participated in about 900 air battles and shot down 273 enemy aircraft. They also damaged more than 80 German aircraft, despite significant losses - 42 pilots killed.
Symbolism and meaning of the monument
The central part of the composition of the monument are the figures of a French pilot and a Soviet technician, which symbolizes friendship and mutual assistance between peoples during the years of the struggle against fascism. The names of French pilots and Ivanovo aviation technicians who served in the regiment are listed on the pedestal.

The memory of the legendary Normandie-Niemen squadron is preserved in various countries, including Russia, France and Belarus, recalling the importance of international cooperation in the struggle for freedom and peace.
