Description
The Sukhaya Atya Cave is a unique natural object in the Chelyabinsk region. Its name comes from the river on which it is located, which is called “Sukhaya Atya”. This term is translated from Bashkir as “horse river”, reflecting the importance of horse breeding for the local population.
Sukhaya Atya Cave is known for its karst landscape, which includes underground lakes, siphons, stalactites, stalagmites and clay takyrs. The total volume of the cave's voids is about 100,000 cubic meters, and the floor area reaches 12,000 square meters. The entrance to the cave is an arch 25 meters wide and 1.5 meters high, located at a height of 4 meters above the river level.
One of the features of the cave is the presence of the largest colony of bats in the region, including species listed in the Red Book of the Chelyabinsk region. Rare species of plants also grow on the territory of the cave, such as dark red dremlik, northern shiverekia and others.
The history of exploring the cave began at the end of the 19th century and continues to this day. The cave attracts both speleologists and tourists who want to see the amazing natural formations and the rich biodiversity that co-exists within it. It is noted that to visit the cave you must be careful due to dampness, puddles and clay, which can make movement difficult.
