Description

The Iken cave, located on Mount Burgaz in the Arkhangelsk region of the Republic of Bashkortostan, was discovered and explored by speleologists in 1964. This unique natural formation attracts attention with its size and various sinter formations.

The cave has a length of 333 meters and a maximum depth of 12.5 meters. The height of the ceiling vault ranges from 0.5 to 11 meters, and the width of the passages varies from 0.5 to 23 meters. The floor is mostly horizontal, with occasional small stones, crushed stone and clay. Inside the cave you can find stalactites and stalagmites, reaching impressive sizes of up to 1 meter in diameter, as well as beautiful calcite waterfalls and gours.

The entrance to the cave is located on the northwestern slope of Mount Burgaz at an altitude of approximately 23 meters. The cave has two entrances, which will have to be overcome on all fours due to their small size. Due to the dense vegetation, the earthen entrance to the cave is almost invisible and can be found by following the tracks of the narrow gauge railway.

In the past, Ikenskaya Cave was a popular place for tourists to visit when the narrow-gauge railway was still operating in these parts. However, the cave is now rarely visited, and the debris left behind and inscriptions at the entrance testify to the times of its popularity. The cave is easily traversable, but it is recommended to have extra clothing due to the tendency to get dirty in the clay or step in a puddle inside.
