Description
The Stone City, also known as the Devil's Settlement or Turtles, is a landscape geomorphological natural monument of regional significance, located near the village of Shumikhinsky in the Gubakhinsky district of the Perm Territory. The area of this unique natural formation is about 30.0 hectares, and the distance to the city of Perm is approximately 180-200 kilometers.
According to legend, Stone Town was once a prosperous city, but after a sorcerer healed the king's blind daughter, all its streets, houses and residents were turned to stone. This gives the place a special mysterious charm.
The stone city was formed by the weathering of sandstones in the river bed millions of years ago, creating the atmosphere of streets and arches that inspired its name. It is a rock mass of fine-grained Lower Carboniferous quartz sandstone, cut by deep cracks ranging from 1 to 8 meters wide and 8 to 12 meters deep.
It is important to note that each sculpture has its own unique name, borrowed from the animal world, such as Turtle, Feathered Guardian, Seal, Rat. And the streets that can be distinguished in this stone labyrinth also received their own names, for example Prospect, Square.
Stone Town is one of the main natural attractions and a place of power in the Perm region. Its majestic and picturesque rocks create the impression of an abandoned city, making visitors forget about reality and plunge into a world of fantasy and mystery.
