Description

The small lake Koshkul, located in the Chelyabinsk region near the city of Miass, despite its name, has nothing to do with cats. This is a combination of two Bashkir words: "ҡosh" - which means "bird" (or another version - "kash", which translates as "forest clearing"), and "kul" - which means "lake". The lake has a natural oval shape, its maximum depth is six meters, and the average is from 2 to 3 meters. The surface area of the water is 1.36 square kilometers.

It is possible to stay at a local sanatorium with the same name or go fishing right on the lake. The sanatorium offers a variety of entertainment in addition to the main purpose of treatment, including excursions by bus and ski sports, accessible in winter due to its geographical location.

Anglers should be aware that fishing fees may be required, but this should generally not be a problem. You can fish almost all year round, with the exception of the spawning season. Catching burbot, the king of the pond, can be the most successful, so experienced fishermen advise using several fishing rods at different distances from each other. The lake is home to more than ten species of fish, including carp, whitefish and others.

In addition to fishing, you can pick mushrooms, especially in the mixed forests surrounding the lake. The lake is located about 110 km south from Chelyabinsk, and only 1.5 km from Miass. It is also possible to get to the Miass-1 station by train.
