Description
Frunze Street, previously known as Saratovskaya, runs parallel to Kuibyshevskaya Street, and to this day it retains its unique architectural appearance, reflecting the history of the development of the city of Samara. This street witnessed the rise of the city's economy, because it was here in the past that wealthy lawyers, doctors and representatives of the new generation of famous merchant families built their houses. House No. 114 deserves special attention.
Historical context
House No. 114 was built in 1891 according to the design of the famous Samara architect A.A. Shcherbachev. The first owner of the building was the merchant O.K. Koenitzer, and the house was originally intended for the needs of pasta factory workers. However, from the beginning of the 20th century, the building came into the possession of the military department of the Samara province. In the period from 1919 to 1920, the commander of the Fourth Army of the Eastern Front, an outstanding military leader during the Civil War, Mikhail Vasilyevich Frunze, lived in this building. The choice of this place for living was not accidental, since the headquarters of the Southern Group of Forces of the Eastern Front and the district administration were located here. It was here that strategic decisions were made to defeat the troops of Admiral Kolchak, who posed a real threat to the city, located less than a hundred kilometers from the front line.
Frunze Museum
After Frunze's death in December 1925, the street was renamed in his honor. In 1934, on the basis of house No. 114, the museum named after M.V. Frunze was created. The museum's exhibition is dedicated to the life and work of this outstanding military figure, telling about his military operations and historical legacy. Currently, the museum is a branch of the local history museum named after P.V. Alabin. and is a valuable monument of residential architecture, attracting the attention of tourists and historians.
