Description
Gumerovskoye Gorge is one of the most beautiful and protected places in the Republic of Bashkortostan. This picturesque place combines plains surrounded by majestic cliffs and a small crystal clear river Zigan, flowing through a mountain gorge. The nearest settlement is the village of Gumerovo, located almost at the entrance to the gorge.
Geographical location and structure
The gorge extends for 3-4 kilometers. At the very beginning, the width of the gorge is about 800 meters, but towards the end it narrows significantly. The two highest peaks of the gorge - Mount Buzhya-tau and Muksim-tau - are important natural landmarks of the region.
Caves Gumerovskoye Gorge
There are two explored karst caves in Gumerovskoye Gorge: Gumerovskaya and Ziganovka (also known as Ziganovsky Grotto). The Ziganovka Cave is a natural monument, its total length is 61 meters, and its depth is 17 meters.
In 1972, local schoolchildren discovered a cave on Mount Muksim, 2 km from the village of Gumerovo. The bones of several adults, fragments of molded vessels, a flat-bottomed pot, a scraper and several iron arrowheads were found in the Gumerovskaya Cave. The finds were transferred to the school museum.
Flora and Fauna
The Gumerovskoye Gorge is surrounded by dense pine and broad-leaved forests. Rare plants listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Bashkortostan grow here, such as Ural flax, Shivekeria podolskaya and feather grass. Among the animals, you can meet bears and lynxes. Local residents often find bear tracks in the gorge in the spring.
Tourist recreation
Recreation in Gumerovskoye Gorge is mostly wild and unequipped. Tourists with tents usually settle down along the Zigan River. Here you can relax, swim in the river, walk in the mountains, which offer stunning views, and even go down into the caves.
How to get there
Gumerovskoye Gorge is accessible to both motorists and those who prefer public transport. From Sterlitamak, you need to go along the 80K-026 highway (Sterlitamak-Beloretsk-Magnitogorsk) to Vasilyevka, and then southeast to the village of Gumerovo.
Climate and seasonal changes
The region belongs to the temperate zone, with a clearly defined change of seasons. In summer, the temperature can reach +42 °C, but on average it is +20 °C. In winter, the temperature is usually below zero, and snow falls in mid-October - early November, remaining until spring.
Flora and fauna
Around the gorge there are steppes and forests, where you can find rare species of plants and animals. Lynx, elk, long-eared hedgehog, red deer, desman, grass snake, peregrine falcon, black vulture and many others live here. On the banks of the river you can often see beavers, muskrats, otters, cranes, black storks and even marsh turtles.
History of the village of Gumerovo
The village of Gumerovo has been known since 1772. It was founded by the Bashkirs of the Teltim-Yurmatynsky volost of the Nogai road on their own lands and was named after the first settler Gumer Karmyshev. The residents were engaged in cattle breeding, agriculture, beekeeping and transportation.
Conclusion
Gumerovskoye Gorge is a unique natural place that attracts tourists with its picturesque landscapes, historical sites and rich biodiversity. It is an ideal place for those who are looking for a wild, unequipped outdoor recreation, where you can enjoy the beauty of the Bashkir mountains and rivers.
