Description

The observatory on Terskol peak is one of the high-altitude astronomical stations, founded in 1980 at an altitude of 3150 meters above sea level. This is an international observatory, which is a branch of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and is part of the International Center for Astronomical and Medical-Ecological Research.

The main task of the observatory is to study the physical properties of stellar bodies and compile their catalogs. For this purpose, the Zeiss-2000 telescope was installed at the observatory, which was delivered to Terskol peak and assembled between 1986 and 1994. This telescope has been used to make important observations such as observations of Comet Hale-Bopp and daytime observations of the planet Mercury.

Terskol Observatory is also known for its incredible panoramas of the surrounding area, including views of Elbrus, Cheget, Ushba and other mountain peaks. It is a unique place for tourists and astronomy lovers.

To visit the observatory, you can choose a route starting from the village of Terskol. Climbing through a pine forest and passing through the Gara-Bashi River and the Maiden Braids waterfall, you can reach the observatory, which takes approximately 6-7 hours on foot. A visit to the observatory is of interest both to those who are passionate about astronomy and to lovers of outdoor activities and incredible mountain scenery.
