Description

Mekletinskoye Pink Lake is a salt lake in the Chernozemelsky District of Kalmykia, Russia, within the Adykovskoye and Komsomolskoye rural municipalities. It is an intermittent, closed-basin body of water visited by organized tourist groups.

The lake's official name is Koltan-Nur (also spelled Koltan Nur or Prevrazhnoye). It consists of two parts joined by a narrow strait that a road crosses. The lake covers an area of 9.12 km² and has a water salinity of 252.5 g/l.

The lake belongs to a group of water bodies known as the "Mekletinskiye Pink Lakes": in 2019 an ecological trail of the same name was laid out around them. The lake itself lies within the Mekletinsky Wildlife Refuge, established on January 12, 1988 to protect the European population of saiga antelope and Red Data Book species such as the demoiselle crane, great bustard, little bustard, steppe eagle, golden eagle and other birds.
