Description

The Vladimir Central is a historical institution that has existed since the end of the 18th century, which played a significant role in Russian history and culture. Originally founded as a prison, it became a well-known place for holding particularly dangerous criminals, including political prisoners.

The prison building, built by decree of Empress Catherine II in 1783, had a long history and underwent various changes and reorganizations. At different periods of time, it served as a place of detention for political prisoners and special categories of criminals, including spies, saboteurs and other persons posing a danger to the state.

The name "Vladimir Central" became widely known thanks to the song of the artist Mikhail Krug, which became popular in Russian culture. This image has become a symbol of the prison system and the tragic fate of many prisoners.

Today, on the territory of the former prison, a museum has been created that tells about its history and significance in Russian history. This museum provides an important source of information about the institution's past and its role in society.
