Description
Shumilovsky Waterfall is one of the unique natural attractions of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Despite its small size, it attracts the attention of thousands of tourists every year. Located in the Tuymazinsky district on the territory of the Bugulminsko-Belebeevskaya Upland, not far from the city of Oktyabrsky and the village of Nizhnetroitsky.
The Shumilovsky waterfall is formed by many thin streams of water that fall from a three-meter ledge of rock, forming a rain wall. It is formed by the Shumilovsky springs, known for their tasty and soft water, saturated with silver. In 2010, the waterfall was recognized as a natural monument of republican significance.
There are two roads to reach Shumilovsky Falls. One of them starts from the village of Chapaevo and runs through the forest at a distance of about 5 km. The other path does not pass through Chapaevo, but begins immediately in front of this village. Both trails require good physical fitness, as the climb to the top can be difficult, especially for people with disabilities.
The waterfall itself is a unique sight. It is located far from the nearest mountains and is formed by water flowing from two springs at an altitude of 292 m. The water cascades down a stepped travertine massif, forming unusual shapes and creating babbling streams. Near the waterfall there is a niche with stone walls dotted with channels and caves, where the water also gurgles and drips. Limestone sediments can be seen in all these depressions, and at the base of one of the caves there is a small lake known as the “Bath of Youth.”
The Shumilovsky waterfall is a particularly beautiful sight on clear days, when the sun's rays play on the streams of water, and in the spring, when it reaches full power. In winter, the waterfall partially freezes, creating beautiful ice formations.
