Description
The Tirlyan Wheel, installed in 1915, is a significant historical artifact in the Republic of Bashkortostan. This giant flywheel, used for the rolling mills of a plate mill, has impressive parameters: the rim weighs 74,710 kg, the hubs and spokes weigh 25,710 kg, the shaft weighs 19,580 kg, and the total weight is 120,000 kg. The installation of flywheels was carried out manually by teams of workers without the use of heavy equipment, using chain hoists and winches.
Revival of history
Since 2019, the Tirlyan Wheel has come to life with new life thanks to the creation of the Wheel of History mini-park. A landscaped area with paved paths, benches, trash cans and lighting has been created around the wheel. Visitors can learn about the history of the plant thanks to information posters installed nearby.
Monument to Metallurgy
The mini-park also features a “Monument to the Metallurgist” sculpture and a display iron ore ingot, reminiscent of the plant’s contribution to the region’s industry.
Factory in the past and present
The Tirlyansky metallurgical plant existed from the 18th century until the early 1990s. In 1994, the plant ceased to exist due to a natural disaster - the destruction of a dam and flood, which carried away a ten-meter wave of water and led to the closure of the production cycle.
Today, Tirlyan attracts tourists with its unique wheel of history, as well as natural attractions that make it a pearl of tourism. This amazing corner of nature in Bashkortostan offers clean air, picturesque rivers, lakes, mushroom forests and unique natural formations that are reminiscent of landscapes from the movie Avatar.
Tirlyan remains an important historical site and an attractive destination for tourists wishing to learn more about the industrial heritage and natural beauty of Bashkortostan.
