Description

Mount Medvezhiy Lob (also known as Arapova Mountain) is the highest point of the Volga-Ural interfluve, located on the Obshchiy Syrt hill with an absolute height of 405 meters above sea level. This shihan hill is typical of the pre-Ural syrts and is characterized by various natural features.

On the northern slopes of Bear's forehead there are birch groves that have grown due to the proximity of groundwater. These groves surprise with numerous anthills and are home to various species of animals, including moose and various species of birds.

The southern slope of the mountain, which is shaped like a bear's forehead, is a steep and eroding stream. The upland aspen-birch forest thrives here, which arises due to the release of groundwater from the Permian sandstones.

The top and western slopes of the mountain are dominated by rocky steppes with various types of vegetation, such as chiliga, spirea, steppe cherry, bean, rose hips and others. These places represent a unique biodiverse environment, adapted to the harsh conditions of the steppe climate.

Medvezhiy Lob is also famous for its geological features, including Eocene-age perforated quartzites that form the basis of its topography. These rocks are characterized by disturbed occurrence and create a unique landscape appearance of the mountain.

This natural complex is not only a unique place for studying geological processes, but also an important ecological zone that supports a diversity of wildlife and provides unique opportunities for eco-tourism and outdoor recreation.
