Description
Victory Park in Cheboksary is an iconic place for many local families and at the same time one of the best viewing platforms in the city. Located at the highest point of the city, the park covers more than 30 hectares and is located on the banks of the Volga in the city center. From here you have a stunning view of the Volga, the Cheboksary Volga region and the historical part of the city.
Victory Park combines military history, a panorama of the city and a cozy place for walking. The park is dedicated to the complex pages of Russian history, starting from the 40s of the 20th century. Cheboksary residents have allocated the most beautiful place in the city to honor the memory of their heroes. The park symbolizes the memory of soldiers who fought in the Great Patriotic, Afghan and Chechen wars, liquidators of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident and sailors from Chuvashia.
The main alleys of the park start from the Open Air Museum of Military Equipment. The central alley, the Walk of Glory, of blue spruce trees leads to the Monument of Military Glory and the Eternal Flame. The park contains numerous monuments to soldiers and heroes.
Monument of Military Glory
The Monument of Military Glory is the dominant feature of the park and the entire city. This is a bronze composition: the Motherland holds a banner and points forward, next to her stands a soldier with a weapon in his hands. The height of the monument exceeds 16 meters. The monument was created by architect Grigory Alekseevich Zakharov and sculptor Alexander Dmitrievich Shcherbakov and opened in May 1980. At the foot of the hill where the monument stands, the Eternal Flame burns, lit from the Eternal Flame from the Hall of Military Glory on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd.
City view
The Monument of Military Glory offers stunning views of the Volga, the Gulf and the old part of Cheboksary. This is an excellent starting point for a sightseeing tour or a walk around the city.
Open-air museum
The park also houses an open-air Museum of Military Equipment, where more than a dozen examples of military equipment are collected, including airplanes, helicopters, armored vehicles and artillery. This place is especially popular with children who love to climb on the fighting vehicles and ask lots of questions.
