Description

The memorial complex, located in the Central Park of Culture of the city of Yoshkar-Ola, is an important symbol of the memory of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. It includes the Eternal Flame, the Walk of Fame of Heroes of the Soviet Union and memorial steles. The opening of the complex took place on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the victory in April 1975, and the Eternal Flame was lit on May 9 of the same year.

The central element of the complex is a six-meter figure of a victorious warrior mounted on a 20-meter-high column. This figure symbolizes the dead and missing Mari, as well as workers evacuated to the republic. The memorial stele, made of granite, concrete and forged copper, depicts a soldier with a machine gun and a flowing cloak-tent behind his back, embodying courage and valor.

Next to the monument is the Eternal Flame memorial complex, made in the shape of a five-pointed star. It was lit in Yoshkar-Ola on May 9, 1975. The “Alley of Heroes” leads to the Eternal Flame, where memorial plaques with the names of heroic soldiers who died during the war are installed. Blue spruces are planted behind the slabs, symbolizing the gratitude of descendants. On the eve of and during Victory Day, a guard of honor and mass events dedicated to this important holiday are held near the Eternal Flame.
