Description

The monument to V.I. Chapaev in the city of Cheboksary, the capital of the Chuvash Republic, is an important symbol of memory and respect for the legendary hero of the Civil War. This monument, located in a park along Lenin Avenue, not far from the Cheboksary I railway station, is part of the memorial complex of the V. I. Chapaev Museum.

Initially, the sculpture of the equestrian division commander was made in Moscow from reinforced concrete and installed at the Exhibition of National Economic Achievements in front of the Volga Pavilion. In 1960, it was brought to Cheboksary and installed on the square next to plant No. 320, and then moved to the park next to Station Square. After extensive restoration in 1984, the sculpture was cast in bronze, and its pedestal was raised on a ten-meter granite pedestal, decorated with bas-reliefs depicting the heroics of the Civil War.

In 2007, the monument underwent another reconstruction, during which work was carried out to cover the pedestal with new granite slabs and install a ventilated facade system.

The sculpture of V. I. Chapaev is on a rearing horse and is made in a realistic style. On the pedestal you can see the inscription “To the Legendary Hero of the Civil War” and two dates “1887-1919,” which symbolizes the life and work of Chapaev. The monument is easily visible from neighboring streets and is an important cultural heritage site of the city.

V.I. Chapaev, commander of the Red Army, participant in the First World War and the Civil War, was born in 1887 in the village of Budaika, which is now part of Cheboksary. His merits and exploits are marked by numerous awards, including the Order of the Red Banner and the Cross of St. George.

The monument to V.I. Chapaev is not only a symbol of heroism and memory, but also an important historical site that is worth visiting when traveling to Cheboksary.
