Description

The Bell Museum in the city of Valdai, Novgorod region, is located in the historical building of the Church of the Great Martyr Catherine, which is an architectural monument of the 18th century. Since its opening in 1995, the museum has been part of the Novgorod State United Museum-Reserve.

The museum presents a wide range of materials on the history of bells and their manufacturing technologies both in Russia and in other countries. The exhibition also talks about various bell-ringing techniques and the history of the Valdai bell.

Museum visitors are allowed to ring some of the bells on display. In addition, the museum has a collection of ringing recordings of the most famous bell compositions.

The museum holds traveling exhibitions of bells in various cities and towns. For example, an exhibition dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the bell was held not only in Valdai itself, but also in Veliky Novgorod, Chudov and Staraya Russa.

The building in which the museum is located has an interesting history. Initially, the Church of the Great Martyr Catherine II was built according to the design of the architect Nikolai Alexandrovich Lvov in the form of a rotunda. The building was later used for a variety of purposes, including a brasserie, warehouse and observation post during World War II. After restoration and work on the arrangement of the museum, the building was transferred to the Novgorod State United Museum-Reserve.

The Bell Museum in Valdai attracts both locals and tourists with its unique exhibition and the interesting history of the building in which it is located.
