Bogatyrskaya Sloboda
Description
Bogatyrskaya Sloboda is a wooden architecture and tourism complex built in the style of ancient Rus, on the bank of the Usa River's Usinsky Bay in the Stavropolsky District of Samara Oblast, next to Samarskaya Luka National Park. The complex was created by Togliatti artist Viktor Petrov: wooden huts, towers and mansions recreate the atmosphere of ancient Rus and its legends of warrior-heroes (bogatyrs).
The All-Russian School of Orthodox Culture "Russian Bogatyr" operates here; Nikita Mikhalkov's film "City of the Holy Cross" was made about it. Visitors are offered boat rides under scarlet sails, a staged bogatyr battle, princely Russian cuisine and other folk-style entertainment.
Around the complex are the sandy beaches and waters of Samarskaya Luka, where you can swim or simply walk through the scenic landscape; nearby are other museums, architectural ensembles, chapels and monuments of the national park.
