Description
The old tunnel under the railway tracks is an arch-type drainage structure about 50 meters long. Its history goes back to the beginning of the 20th century, when it was built in parallel with the construction of the railway through the city of Ufa. The main purpose of the tunnel is to drain water from the stream, the source of which is located 300-500 meters up the ravine from the entrance portal of the tunnel. Completing its path, the water from the tunnel comes out onto the bank of the Belaya River, where it flows.
This architectural object has a special charm, especially in winter, when the waters of the spring form an icy cascade of steps. As winter approaches, the stream in the tunnel begins to freeze, creating amazing ice formations that give the place its uniqueness and beauty.
In the vicinity of Ufa you can find several similar tunnels; their appearance is very similar. Some of them remain dry, while in others a stream flows, forming winter icy cascades that turn an ordinary landscape into a fairy-tale spectacle.
