Description
The Church of the Archangel Michael is an Orthodox church of the Samara diocese of the Moscow Patriarchate, built in 1915. This temple is an object of cultural heritage of Russia of regional significance.
The history of the emergence of the temple is connected with the arrival of John of Kronstadt to Samara in 1902. He consecrated the site for the future church, predicting that a blessed temple would be built on this site.
Initially, on the site of the modern temple there was a wooden prayer house, which was built in 1909 thanks to the efforts of local residents and charitable donations. However, already in 1915, construction began on a stone church instead of a prayer house. The consecration celebrations of the temple took place on November 13-15, 1915.
In 1929 the church was closed and turned over for use as a school. The temple building was used at different periods as a club, a hospital, a hospital, a gym and other institutions.
In 1991, the temple was transferred for free use to the Russian Orthodox Church, and after reconstruction in 1992 it was again consecrated in honor of Archangel Michael.
Since 1993, there has been a continuous reconstruction of the temple, during which the last domes were installed in 2007, and then the interior decoration was updated. In 2013, a bell weighing 9 tons was hung.
The Church of the Archangel Michael today is an important religious and cultural center of Samara, attracting parishioners and tourists with its historical and architectural significance.
