Description

On September 10, 2016, in honor of City Day and on the eve of the 65th anniversary of the famous Russian actor Viktor Ivanovich Sukhorukov, a monument dedicated to his personality and work was unveiled in Orekhovo-Zuevo. This event became a significant cultural moment for the city, highlighting Sukhorukov's contribution to the development of Russian cinema.

The idea to create the monument belongs to local businessman Igor Berkausov, whose admiration for Sukhorukov’s talent arose after watching “High Security Comedy.” Having discovered that Sukhorukov was a native of Orekhovo-Zuev, Berkausov expressed his opinion on the need to perpetuate the memory of the actor’s contribution to the cultural heritage of the city, comparing his significance with the figure of Savva Morozov.

The sculptor who embodied the idea in bronze was Pyotr Medvedev. A year before the installation of the monument, he met with Sukhorukov to collect materials for the work, especially focusing on recreating the actor's bald head, which required Sukhorukov to provide photographs from different angles. The sculpture was made in the D'ARTLAND workshop under the direction of Sergei Vasilyuk.

The monument occupies a place of honor on Lenin Street, near the symbol of the city - a tower with chimes. Depicts Viktor Sukhorukov sitting on a bench with a bronze newspaper next to him. Such an image symbolizes the path and thoughts of the actor, embodying his life and creative path.

The opening ceremony was attended by Sukhorukov himself, who expressed his gratitude and love for the residents of his hometown. The actor emphasized that the monument reflects not only his personality, but is also a symbol of life, thoughts and history, which has left a significant mark on the culture of Russia.

The installation of a monument to Viktor Sukhorukov in Orekhovo-Zuevo is an expression of respect and recognition of his talent and contribution to Russian cinema. This event highlights the importance of preserving the memory of outstanding individuals who make a significant contribution to the cultural and historical heritage of the region and the country.

The opening of the monument was not only a tribute to the actor’s talent, but also an important event for the cultural life of Orekhovo-Zuev, demonstrating the connection between generations and the eternal value of art.
