Description

The nameless tower of the Kazan Kremlin is one of the characteristic defensive structures of this historical complex. Located in the western part of the wall between the Tainitskaya and Preobrazhenskaya towers, this 14-meter high tower stands out for its unique architecture.

Built at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, this tower is part of the fortification complex of the Kazan Kremlin. During the period of replacement of wooden fortress walls with stone ones, local craftsmen, possibly under the guidance of Moscow architects, erected this tower. Previously, on the site of the Nameless Tower there was the Quraish passage gate. In the 70-80s of the last century, the object was restored: the lost sections of the masonry walls and the wooden tent were restored.

Despite the fact that the name of the architect who developed the drawings of the tower has been lost to centuries, the structure itself has been well preserved. The tower has four tiers, and the top part is decorated with a cone-shaped wooden roof. Its appearance evokes associations with the South-West Tower, but they differ in the shape and number of openings.

Today, the Nameless Tower, like the entire Kazan Kremlin, is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, certifying its significance as an object of historical and architectural heritage.
