Description

The Cave of Wishes lies on a rocky cliff of the Una-Koz ridge near the stanitsa of Dakhovskaya, in the Maykopsky District of Adygea, reached via the Savranskaya (Dakhovskaya) cable car. This through-cave has a spacious hall several metres high and is one of the most popular sights in the area, with views over the Belaya River valley and the Khadzhokh Canyon.

The name "Cave of Wishes" comes from a local custom: it is believed that if you make a wish while leaning a twig against the wall by the cave entrance, it will come true. That is why a palisade of twigs and sticks usually stands at the entrance.

The easiest way to reach the cave is to take the cable car up Mount Una-Koz. A well-trodden path leads to it along the ridge, above overhanging cliffs. The cave itself is spacious and tall enough to stand upright in. Its exit forms an overhang above the rocky part of the ridge, with a striking view over the valley of the Malaya Belaya River.

Visiting the cave is safe: a floor and a metal railing have been installed inside, letting you approach right up to the edge. The Cave of Wishes can make an interesting stop between other sights along the Una-Koz ridge.
