White Rocks Canyon (Sochi)
Natural wonder- 1 642 views
Description
White Rocks is a canyon up to 150 meters deep on the Bolshaya Khosta River, in the Navalishenskoye Gorge near the village of Krasnaya Volya in the Adler district of Sochi, within Sochi National Park. The route is about 4 km long, and the whole trip takes around 3.5 hours.
Origin and Nature
The rocks are made of light-colored limestone, which gives the canyon its name. The Bolshaya Khosta River has carved through the rock for centuries: in places the canyon narrows to almost a meter wide, and the water depth in these narrow sections reaches 12 meters. The trail passes through a yew-boxwood forest with relict thickets of English yew and Colchis boxwood — both species listed in the Red Data Book; rapids and small waterfalls can be seen along the way.
