Description

The Church of the Holy Archangel Michael is located in the village of Sharlyk in the Orenburg Region. In 1888, a new three-altar church was founded on the site of the old wooden church. It was solemnly consecrated in several stages: the main altar in honor of the Holy Archangel Michael on October 13, 1896, the right altar in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on October 26, 1898, and the left altar in honor of the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky on May 21, 1901. The construction and decoration of the church were funded by parishioners and voluntary donations.

The church was a majestic structure with a bell tower and a fence. The largest bell weighed 366 poods, and its tongue weighed 17 poods. The church was decorated with an iconostasis, the cost of which was 12,000 rubles. The interior painting of the church was done by the artist Dmitriev from Orenburg, the work cost 5,100 rubles.

However, in 1932 the church was closed. As a result of the anti-religious campaign, the crosses were removed, the bell tower and dome were destroyed, and the church building was converted into a club.

In 1993, the church building was returned to the believers, but it was in a state of disrepair. Nevertheless, already on Easter of the same year, the first service was held in the church, conducted by Schema-Archimandrite Seraphim (Tomin).

Today, the church is being restored, and unique paintings resembling paintings have been discovered under a layer of plaster. The restoration of these paintings and the return of the church to its former splendor continue, delighting the believers and all residents of the village of Sharlyk.
