Description

Monument to V.G. Belinsky, opened on July 10, 1954, is located in the park opposite the regional drama theater named after A.M. Lunacharsky. The monument represents a bronze figure of V.G. Belinsky on a tetrahedral three-part pedestal, lined with gray granite. The figure of Belinsky is depicted in full height with a raised hand, symbolizing the beginning of the performance and expressing the desire to move forward, an impulse. The laying of the monument took place on June 19, 1948 in honor of the 100th anniversary of the critic’s death. This event was attended by such famous personalities as writers A. Fadeev, I. Ehrenburg, P. Zamoyski, F. Gladkov, P. Vershigora, as well as academician V. Vinogradov.

The author of the sculpture is People's Artist of the USSR, Lenin Prize laureate Evgeniy Vuchetich, and the author of the pedestal is full member of the USSR Academy of Architecture, laureate of the USSR State Prize Leonid Polyakov. The inscription carved on the pedestal contains information about Vissarion Grigorievich Belinsky (1811–1848).

The sculpture was cast at the Leningrad plant "Monumentsculpture". The height of the pedestal is 5 meters, and the sculpture itself is 5.5 meters.

The monument to V. G. Belinsky in Penza was installed on Teatralny Proezd opposite the Penza Regional Drama Theater in the Leninsky district of the city.

The monument was founded in 1948 and became the second monument to the writer in the city. The work on it was carried out by the famous Soviet sculptor-monumentalist Evgeniy Vuchetich and architect Leonid Polyakov. The grand opening of the monument took place on July 10, 1954.

The sculpture represents a full-length figure of Belinsky with a raised hand, symbolizing the beginning of the performance and the desire to move forward. The height of the sculpture is 5.5 meters, and its pedestal is 5 meters. The pedestal is lined with gray granite, and an inscription with the name and dates of Belinsky’s life is carved on it.

The monument is a cultural heritage site of federal significance.
