Description
The monument to Comrade Sukhov, based on the main character of the film "White Sun of the Desert", is a prominent landmark on the Volga embankment in the city of Samara. This is a monument dedicated to the Red Army soldier Fyodor Ivanovich Sukhov, and is located between Nekrasovsky and Leningradsky descents. The location was not chosen by chance, given that Sukhov’s character from the film lived and acted in the city of Samara.
The sculptor of the monument, Konstantin Chernyavsky, sought to create an image as similar as possible to the actor Anatoly Kuznetsov, who played the role of Sukhov. The monument is made of bronze and weighs about 315 kg. It sits directly on the ground without a pedestal to give it a more natural look.
The opening of the monument took place on December 7, 2012, and the ceremony was attended by many passers-by and fans of the actor. Although Anatoly Kuznetsov himself was unable to attend the opening due to health conditions, he promised to visit the monument at the first opportunity.
It is worth noting that the monument to Sukhov may become the first of many other planned monuments on the embankment. The sculptor's plans were to create a multi-figure composition, possibly with monuments to other characters from the film, such as customs officer Vereshchagin and Katerina Matveevna.
