Teriberka Waterfall
Description
Teriberka Waterfall flows into the Barents Sea near the village of Teriberka on Russia's Kola Peninsula and is one of the area's most striking natural landmarks. It begins at Lake Maly Batareysky and forms a stream that drops from a considerable height, creating a powerful cascade. The waterfall's flow varies with the lake's water level, from a roaring torrent to a quiet trickle.
In winter the falling water freezes into an ice cascade, so the best time to visit is spring, summer or early autumn, when the lake is full and the flow is at its strongest.
Almost no vegetation grows around the waterfall because of its exposure to the sea, which only adds to the stark, wild beauty of the setting. Such landscapes served as the backdrop for several films, including the acclaimed "Leviathan", parts of which were shot right by the waterfall. Its untouched scenery and wilderness atmosphere continue to draw travellers to this remote corner of the Kola Peninsula.
