Description

The Putorana State Nature Reserve, located on the Putorana Plateau in the northwestern part of the Central Siberian Plateau, south of the Taimyr Peninsula, is a unique natural and cultural site. Founded on December 15, 1988, the reserve has a vast territory of 1,887,251 hectares, of which 1,773,300 hectares are protected areas.

The reserve is famous for its unique wealth of ecosystems and flora and fauna. It is a combination of subarctic and arctic ecosystems, such as virgin taiga, forest-tundra and arctic desert. In August 2010, the territory of the reserve was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site due to its unique nature and ecological significance.

Traveling to the reserve requires careful preparation, since there is no road from Norilsk to the reserve. In winter, tourists are transported by snowmobile, and in summer - by water. Despite the difficulties in transportation, the reserve attracts tourists with its breathtaking landscapes, waterfalls and lakes.

Lakes occupy a significant part of the reserve’s territory, and their number exceeds 25 thousand, including both small and large tectonic lakes. Here you can also see many waterfalls, each of which is unique in its appearance and size. One of the highest waterfalls in Russia is the waterfall on the Konda River with a height of 108 meters.

A visit to the Putorana Nature Reserve requires good physical preparation and special equipment, given the harsh climatic conditions of this region. Even in summer, temperatures can be low and the terrain features strong winds and changeable weather.

However, all the difficulties and challenges are worth it with the stunning views and unique nature that this reserve offers. The Putorana Nature Reserve is a unique opportunity to plunge into virgin nature and enjoy its beauty in the very heart of Siberia.
