Description
Lake Talkas, majestically located on the eastern slopes of the Ural Mountains in Bashkortostan, is a unique natural formation that captivates with its bizarre beauty and unique character. This is a freshwater lake of tectonic origin, comfortably located in a narrow intermountain depression on the western slope of the Irendyk ridge, in close proximity to the village of Tubinsky and the village of Isyanovo.
The northern and southern shores of the lake are gently sloping and sometimes swampy, while the western and eastern shores are steeper. The eastern shore, often rocky, is adorned with lush forests of alder, birch and larch, while the western shore, although formerly forested, is now a birch woodland due to logging.
Lake Talkas is considered one of the highest in Bashkortostan, located at an altitude of 550 meters above sea level. Its island shape, stretching four kilometers long and one kilometer wide, gives the lake a special charming appearance.
The origin of the lake's name is shrouded in mystery. There is an assumption that the name comes from the Bashkir word “tauly”, which translates as “mountainous”, or from a word meaning “quiet”. Both options are completely justified: the lake, surrounded by majestic mountains, really looks peaceful and calm, like an island of silence in the middle of a noisy world.
Lake Talkas is famous not only for its beauty, but also for the diversity of flora and fauna. It is home to many species of fish, such as crayfish, tench, whitefish, pike, silver bream, perch, roach and roach. The black-throated loon and scoter nest along the banks.
The reservoir is not only a place of recreation, but also a source of valuable natural resources. Near its eastern shore, at a depth of 8-10 meters, lies sapropel, a bottom sediment that is used in mud therapy.
Lake Talkas, often called the treasure of the Ural nature, attracts tourists with its amazing landscapes and the opportunity to spend time in nature. This place is ideal for a picnic, fishing or just to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature.
Despite its significance, Lake Talkas has not yet received the status of a natural monument, and its territory is not protected. However, thanks to its unique beauty and diversity, this place remains one of the most popular among tourists and nature lovers.
