Description

Dragon Park (Park Drakonov) is a rock formation complex in the Lazovsky municipal district of Primorsky Krai, near the village of Chistovodnoye. It is a cluster of bizarre rock outcrops shaped like old castles, mythical creatures, animals and people. The outcrops cover an area of nearly 40 square kilometers, with some rocks reaching 20 to 30 meters or more in height. At the top of the hill rise two ridges that look like dragons — the source of the park's name.

What to see

Visitors can find a stone imprint resembling a dragon's footprint about a meter and a half long, as well as large rounded boulders sitting in natural stone hollows, which local legend calls dragon eggs. A small man-made dragon sculpture stands nearby; it has nothing to do with the natural rock formations but has become part of the visitor route.

Legends and theories

The scientific explanation is that the unusual rock shapes formed over centuries of weathering and erosion. Among locals and tourists, a legend holds that the rocks are petrified dragons that lived here before humans appeared. A more exotic version links the place to extraterrestrials. Local historian S. V. Kabelev suggested the rock complex might have been created by an ancient civilization. None of these stories is confirmed, but they gave the park its name and continue to draw travelers.

Getting there

The route to the park starts at a wooden footbridge in the village of Chistovodnoye. The climb up the forest trail to the hill takes about an hour and a half.

Chistovodnoye itself lies in the Lazovsky municipal district of Primorsky Krai, about 20 kilometers west of the highway connecting the village of Lazo and the settlement of Kiyevka. Lazo can be reached via Nakhodka or Partizansk, and from there a local road leads to Chistovodnoye.

Practical info

Dragon Park is a wild natural site with no built-up tourist infrastructure: the climb follows an ordinary forest trail rather than an equipped route. It takes about an hour and a half one way, so visitors should plan their time to include the walk back down to the footbridge in Chistovodnoye.
