Ostrov Boat Station Lighthouse

A ten-metre lighthouse stands on the grounds of the "Ostrov" boat station, on Ostrov Otdykha (the "Island of Rest") in Krasnoyarsk, on the Abakan channel of the Yenisei, in Krasnoyarsk Krai. It is not a navigation structure in the old sense but a new art object: it was installed during the landscaping of the island, and in the evening it lights up, incidentally serving as a landmark for boats passing along the channel. The lighthouse stands to the right of Tsentralny Stadium, in the central part of the island.

History of the boat station

The boat station on Ostrov Otdykha has existed since the middle of the 20th century. In 2012 this stretch of the bank was handed over to a base of the State Inspectorate for Small Vessels (GIMS). From 2015 the station began building two-storey boat hangars made from shipping containers — a way to solve the storage of residents' vessels.

In 2021 the station's management was warned that its buildings did not meet the requirements for recreation areas. On 18 January 2022 a court allowed the old structures to be demolished, and construction on the cleared site began in the summer of that year.

The lighthouse and the island's redevelopment

On 13 February 2023 a ten-metre lighthouse was installed on the boat station's grounds as part of the landscaping programme for Ostrov Otdykha. The structure was conceived as an art object: after dark it lights up and is clearly visible from the water, while also marking the station's position on the Abakan channel for boats and small craft.

The island's management has announced further plans — a viewing platform and walking areas nearby, so that the lighthouse becomes not just a landmark but a stop along the embankment.

Getting there

The lighthouse is on Ostrov Otdykha, to the right of Tsentralny Stadium coming from the riverbank. The nearest public transport stop is "Ostrov Otdykha" ("Island of Rest"); from there it is about a five-minute walk along the embankment. Drivers can usually find parking nearby. For a taxi, it is easier to name the destination "Lodochny slip" ("boat slipway") — that point is easier for a driver to find on the island.
