Description
The Bear Grotto, located in the vast Zhiguli Nature Reserve in the Samara Region, is a unique natural formation that attracts the attention of both song festival lovers and nature researchers.
This grotto was formed as a result of the dissolution of limestones, and is characterized by its small size - the average height is 2.2 meters and the width is 3.5 meters. Inside the grotto you can find protrusions of dolomitic limestone, giving it a special architectural appearance in the form of terrace-like steps.
One of the versions of the origin of the name "Bear Grotto" is its surroundings: the noise of the pine forest enveloping the entrance to the grotto creates the impression of a large animal approaching. Another version connects the name with the discovery of bear bones, however, research by the speleological commission refuted this fact, revealing only the remains of various species of rodents and a hare, among which may be the most ancient representatives of the region’s fauna.
The surrounding area of the Bear Grotto is famous not only for its natural beauty, but also becomes the site of annual musical events. Here, as part of the Valery Grushin Art Song Festival, talented musicians and fans of live music gather.
A visit to the Bear Grotto and its surroundings is possible in the presence of the Samarskaya Luka National Park, which opens up many amazing opportunities for visitors to explore the natural resources of the region.
