Museum of Narrow-Gauge Railways (Yekaterinburg)
Description
The Museum of Narrow-Gauge Railways in Yekaterinburg is a unique place dedicated to the history and development of narrow-gauge rail transport. It was founded in 2016 and is located in the city of Yekaterinburg, within the complex of buildings and structures of the Sverdlovsk Children's Railway.
The idea for the museum belongs to Igor Naboychenko, chief engineer of the Sverdlovsk Railway, who decided in 2013 to create it on the grounds of the Sverdlovsk Children's Railway. The museum opened in September 2016.
The collection comprises more than 90 exhibits, including various rolling stock such as locomotives, carriages and other railway artefacts. Housing the museum within the historic complex of the children's railway creates a distinctive space for exploring the history of narrow-gauge railways.
The museum also offers tours and excursion programmes year-round, making it a popular destination for residents and visitors to Yekaterinburg. As part of the special programme "Narrow-Gauge Railway — the Workhorse of 20th-Century Industry", visitors can ride a retro train and see various sites on the museum grounds. Advance booking is required to take part.
