Spirit of the Warrior Weapons Museum
Description
The Spirit of the Warrior Weapons Museum stands in the historical centre of Kazan, inside the Cannon (Artillery) Yard complex of the Kazan Kremlin, and offers a valuable record of the region's military history. Its collection spans the period from ancient times to the era of the Golden Horde, letting visitors trace the origins and development of weaponry.
The museum holds genuine artefacts that tell how the ancestors of today's Tatars defended their land. Exhibits such as ancient military uniforms, horse tack, ammunition and various accessories recreate the atmosphere of warfare and reveal much about the life and customs of the local peoples.
The exhibition is arranged chronologically, so visitors can follow the evolution of weapons and military dress from antiquity through the Middle Ages. Alongside the military exhibits are peacetime items such as jewellery, coins and other historic artefacts.
Special attention is given to the graphic works of Valery Blokhin, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, and to sculptural reconstructions of warriors from different eras, which let visitors picture exactly how warriors once looked.
Though modest in size, the museum presents the history of weapons and military dress of our ancestors in full. Besides the guided tour, visitors can browse a shop selling souvenirs and replicas of historical artefacts. A visit to the Spirit of the Warrior Museum is recommended to anyone interested in history and military affairs.
