Zhemchuzhny Waterfall (Bolshoy Utrish)
Description
Zhemchuzhny Waterfall is one of the waterfalls on the coast of Bolshoy Utrish, near Anapa in Krasnodar Krai. It falls from a height of about 5 metres straight onto the beach of the Bolshoy Utrish resort reserve, and its streams break on the rocks into fine droplets that sparkle like pearls in the sun — hence the name ("zhemchuzhny" means "pearly").
The waterfall is part of an ecological trail through the Utrish reserve: the path starts at the bridge over the Sukko River and descends from the mountains to the sea along a stream bed, past cliffs and a coastline that resembles the Mediterranean. In summer, the rocky slopes near the waterfall become covered with climbing plants, while the water stays cold and refreshing even in the heat. The waterfall can only be reached on foot — there are no roads nearby, and the beach itself is far from any settlement, so the place feels truly wild.
Next to the waterfall is the "Dragotsennost" (Treasure) camp, known for sea births. The beach is shared by ordinary holidaymakers and nudists, so families with children should be mindful of that.
