Description

Cathedral (Oktyabrskaya) Square in Tambov is one of the symbols of the city, permeated with history and the memory of important events. This is the place where in ancient times the defenders of the fortress gathered, where the Transfiguration Church arose, and where the Monument of Glory, dedicated to those who fell during the Great Patriotic War, is now erected.

The Monument of Glory, erected on this square, is a symbol of memory and respect for those who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the Motherland. It is a concrete ring rising above the ground on granite pillars, with bas-reliefs and memorial inscriptions painted on the inside. In its center burns the Eternal Flame, symbolizing the immortal memory of fallen heroes.

Sculptors S.E. Lebedev and K.Ya. Malofeev, as well as architect A.S. Kulikov created this monument in honor of heroic soldiers, and its opening was timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. In subsequent years, the monument was supplemented by an obelisk with the names of Heroes of the USSR and full holders of the Order of Glory.

Cathedral Square is not only a place for ceremonies and memorial events, but also a place where every citizen can come to honor the memory of fallen heroes, lay flowers at the Eternal Flame and feel connected to the history of their country.
