Description
Tanino is a deserted village in the Spassky District of Tatarstan, Russia. Officially it is a village within the Yambukhtinskoye rural settlement, but nobody lives there permanently any more, which puts it among the republic's abandoned settlements.
No reliable record survives of when Tanino was founded or why its residents left. The census figures are the only clear picture. In 2002 the village had 20 inhabitants, all of them Russian, and by 2017 the permanent population had fallen to zero.
Tanino lies in southern Tatarstan, in the forest-steppe belt, about 109 metres above sea level. On paper the village still has its own postcode, 422857, and OKATO code 92232000045.
The village is about 42 km northeast of Bolgar, the administrative centre of the Spassky District. Its coordinates are 55°01′38″ N, 49°42′58″ E (55.027014, 49.715838).
